TEDxPhoenixville

There are moments in life when you ask yourself “How in the world did that happen?”. Shooting a TED event is definitely one of those moments. If you’re not familiar with TED Talks, they’re basically “talks” that happen at TED Conferences around the world, with an emphasis on ideas in technology, entertainment, and design. They’re great talks and great for a daily dose of inspiration. Here’s the story…

July, 2011
I find out that the local (and wonderful!) Colonial Theatre in Phoenixville is hosting a TEDx event (their second one I may add) by searching for TED events in my area. There are no prices listed for tickets, so I decide to fill out the “Contact Us” form they had on their page. I email them asking how much tickets are, figuring that they’ll be some astronomical price.

A few days later I receive an email back from the director of the Colonial Theatre. She also says

“I saw your photography on your website I found from your email signature (food for thought!). We’re looking for someone to photograph this year’s event. Are you interested?”

Needless to say, we worked things out and I got to shoot the event. The speakers were great and all of the volunteers were amazing. It was a great time and hopefully they’ll invite me back for 2012!

Convoy Of Hope: Hope for Philly (Philadelphia)

Since moving to the Philadelphia area, I’ve become much more acquainted (not an expert) with poverty in a city and it’s effects. To some it’s a season, to others a lifestyle, and some it’s generational. No matter what a person’s circumstances are, there is an organization who choose to stand up for those who are less fortunate. That organization is Convoy Of Hope.

Side Note: I interned with Convoy of Hope in 2009 after working with Apple for the past year. There are many organizations and NPOs who’s reputations aren’t the greatest and that can affect how people see every NPO/Charity organization. Fortunately I’ve seen Convoy of Hope work first hand and I can say they’re as committed as ever to their cause of feeding the world physically, and spiritually without cutting corners. They do things the right way.

These photos are from one of the many Convoy of Hope outreaches held around the world, this time in Philadelphia. This one is so big it even has it’s own title: “Hope for Philly”. With a city of 1.5 Million people, this outreach gets effectiveness from having 11 smaller outreaches spread throughout the city. I had the opportunity to capture some moments throughout a few of those outreaches, these are those moments.

You can follow Convoy of Hope on Twitter.
